Ray Melick – Professional Football – Retirement Issues

SPORTS SPECTRUM TODAY

Ray Melick
Sports Columnist
Birmingham News

Interviewed By: Frank Giardina

Shock! Frustration! Sadness! Those are some of the words being tossed around by NFL players this week over the weekend murder of former NFL quarterback Steve McNair

McNair, who led the Tennessee Titans to the 1999 Super Bowl, was found shot to death last Sunday in a condominium in Nashville, Tennessee.

McNair, who was married and had four sons, was found killed along with his girlfriend of the last six months in an apparent murder-suicide.

On this edition of Sports Spectrum Today, we discuss this tragedy with a longtime football writer in the southeast, Ray Melick of the Birmingham News. Ray talks about the temptations that athletes battle in their personal lives.

We also talk about the depression issues that athletes can face when they retire from football. Don’t miss this edition of Sports Spectrum Today as we talk about Steve McNair with sports writer Ray Melick.
