New Year's Day!  It’s the best day of the year for college football fans. The parades and games run non-stop. It’s a veritable football smorgasbord. On Sports Spectrum Today we talk about New Year's Day football with one of the top college football writers in the country, Ray Melick from the Birmingham News in Alabama.

On the docket today is a terrific Rose Bowl match-up featuring Penn State and USC. Ray shares his pre-game thoughts on the match-up. Over in the Capital One Bowl, Georgia battles Michigan State. Will this be the last game in uniform for Georgia quarterback Matthew Stafford and is there pressure on the Georgia coaching staff? Ray shares his insight.

Ray also talks about the Alabama-Utah match-up in the Sugar Bowl on January 2nd. The Tide will be without the services of All American left tackle Andre Smith. How big a blow is this for Bama? Ray tells us.
