This weekend is important for college and NFL football fans and we have plenty to talk about on Sports Spectrum.
In college football, we talk with sports columnist Ray Melick from the Birmingham News in Alabama. Ray will join us live from Atlanta, site of the SEC championship game where the number one ranked team in the nation, Alabama, will battle the Florida Gators. At stake for both teams is a berth in the BCS national championship game.
In addition, one of the nation's most visible coaching positions was filled this week. In a surprise move, the University of Tennessee hired former USC assistant and former Oakland Raiders head coach, Lane Kiffin, as the new head man of the Vols. Kiffin is the youngest head coach in Division I-A football and he takes over a job in the strongest conference in the nation. We go to Knoxville and visit with Steve Phillips of WBIR-TV about the hire.
In the NFL, we visit with the veteran place kicker for the Baltimore Ravens, Matt Stover. The Ravens have had an excellent season. Matt talks about the new coaching regime in Baltimore and the impact they’ve had on the team.
And later we talk with the wide receivers coach for the Indianapolis Colts, Clyde Christensen. Clyde often talks of how the Lord is working in the lives of the Christian men on the coaching staff. This year the staff has done possibly their best coaching job in recovering from a slow start. Coaching for Clyde is about more than just football and it’s always good to hear how the Lord is working in Indianapolis.
Enjoy a full hour of December football on the next Sports Spectrum.
