Jay Mills – College Football – Charleston Southern

SPORTS SPECTRUM TODAY

College Football

Guest: Jay Mills
Head Football Coach
Charleston Southern University

Interviewed by: Frank Giardina

The 2008 regular college football season is over. Championship games will be played in many conferences this weekend. On the FCS level, formerly I-AA, the second round of playoffs is underway. On this edition of Sports Spectrum Today, we hear from a coach whose school is at the Football Championship Subdivision level. He’s Jay Mills the Head Coach of Charleston Southern University.

Charleston Southern is a very new program and this past season the team got off to a 0-3 start. They then turned things around and won seven of their last nine games to finish with a surprising 7-5 record and a second place finish in the Big South Conference.

Jay Mills sees his position as head football coach at Charleston Southern more as a calling. The challenges of playing the game extend beyond the field of play.

Two weeks ago his team experienced a series of amazing events that lead to an emotional week. Jay tells us about his wife suddenly becoming ill, and about a player's father, who is very sick with cancer.

Charleston Southern is a Christian school and the team has a chapel program. Jay tells us what happened at the last chapel service of the season.

Don't miss stories of football and faith in this visit with Charleston Southern football coach, Jay Mills on Sports Spectrum Today.
