Dave Wottle – 1972 Summer Olympics

SPORTS SPECTRUM TODAY

1972 Summer Olympics

Guest: Dave Wottle
Gold Medal Winner
Men’s 800 Meter Run

Interviewed by: Frank Giardina

The Summer Olympic Games are over.  There were extraordinary performances, memorable moments, heart-breaking struggles, and plenty of controversy. On this edition of Sports Spectrum Today, we will take a trip back in time to the 1972 Summer Games in Munich.

Our guest is former American distance runner, Dave Wottle.  Dave won the Gold Medal in the 800 meter run and it was a shock. It was not supposed to happen. Even with one lap to go, it was not supposed to happen—he was at the rear of the pack.

Dave re-caps his race with us and talks about what the Olympic experience meant to him. He also talks about the 1972 summer games, which were one of the most controversial, and certainly the most tragic in Olympic history.

Listening to a visit with Dave Wottle might be a good way to unwind from the 2008 games. Enjoy it on Sports Spectrum Today.
