Saturday, we celebrate the 4th of July weekend on Sports Spectrum with plenty of red, white and blue. First, we talk with Olympic legend Sheila Taormina. Sheila is the first female in Olympic history to compete in three different Olympics in three different sports. She won a Gold Medal as a swimmer in 1996 and competed in the triathlon in 2004. Now at the age of 39, she’s competing in the pentathlon.
We also talk with Olympic softball pitcher Jennie Finch. Jennie is a former college standout at the University of Arizona and is one of the most recognizable faces in all of softball. But, there’s more to Jennie Finch than just softball. We’ll hear her share about her family and her faith in Christ.
Later we will talk baseball with an all American hero, future Hall of Fame pitcher, John Smoltz of the Atlanta Braves. John has impacted players and fans alike through his long and successful baseball career. He’ll miss the rest of this season due to an injury and he’ll share about his goals and plans after baseball. He also talks about the reason for the Braves success during his career there. You may be surprised by his answer.
In the last segment of Sports Spectrum, we ask our listeners to call in and tell us about someone in sports that has been an inspirational figure. And, we hear from Andy Phillips, an infielder for the New York Mets. Andy's career has been full of uncertainty and we hear what he’s learned along the way.
It’s sports, real-issues and faith on Sports Spectrum Saturday.
