Guest: Kyle Rote Jr.Former USA Soccer Star
Interviewed by: Frank Giardina
Sunday is Father's Day and throughout the week we’ve been saluting fathers. We’ve talked with a number of men involved in sports about their dads. Each one has shared about the impact his dad has made on his life.
On this edition of Sports Spectrum Today, we talk with one of the most successful and unique athletes in our nation's history, Kyle Rote Jr. Kyle is the son of former football star, Kyle Rote. His dad was an all American running back at SMU. His dad was an NFL running back and receiver playing on the great New York Giants teams of the 1950's. His teams were NFL champs in 1956 and runner-ups in 1958, 1959, 1961, 1962 and 1963.
Kyle was a high school football star in Dallas and went on to play football at Oklahoma State. While there he was injured and transferred to a small school in Tennessee. He began playing soccer to stay in shape for football and fell in love with the game. In the 1970's he went on to become the first great American soccer player. He also won ABC Television’s Superstars competition three years in a row and was dubbed the country's greatest athlete.
This is an encouraging interview with lessons that fathers should pass on to their children. He also shares some real-life stories of his own father that have impacted his life. Don't miss this Father's Day weekend visit with Kyle Rote, Jr. on Sports Spectrum Today.
