March Madness not only signifies the NCAA basketball tournament it also signals the NCAA wrestling championships. This past weekend, the NCAA wrestling championships were held in St. Louis.
On this edition of Sports Spectrum Today, we talk with a former NCAA National Wrestling Champion. Jimmy Martin won the NCAA title for Penn State at the 126 pound weight class in 1988. While competing he was one of the top student athletes in the nation and was recognized by the NCAA as the outstanding Academic All American of the Year.
Now twenty years later Dr. Jim Martin continues to be involved in athletics through sports medicine, he’s orthopedic surgeon.
In our visit, Jim talks about the pressures of competition and the fact that each match is played out individually. He’ll also share some of his memories of making it to the National Wrestling Championship and talk about how his faith has impacted his life.
