This week the college basketball world was shocked by the sudden resignation of Texas Tech head coach Bobby Knight. Knight has won over 900 college games and also won national titles in 1976, 81 and 87 while coaching at Indiana. For him to retire with only a month of season play left is a surprise.
We talk about the resignation of coach Knight with one of his former players, Tom Abernathy. Tom was a member of the 1976 team that defeated Michigan for the national title. They were the last team to go undefeated in Division I basketball.
We also talk college basketball with the first year head coach at Marshall University, Donnie Jones. Donnie was an assistant at the University of Florida under Billy Donovan when the Gators won back to back national titles the last two years. He shares what he learned from working for Donovan and he shares about the challenges of going from a successful program to a rebuilding program.
Last Sunday, the New York Giants shocked the NFL world by winning the Super Bowl. We visit with a Giants rookie, Dave Tollefson. Dave is an interesting story. He played his college football at Division II Northwest Missouri State and he talks about the impact a coach can have on the life of his players.
Finally, we hear from Hall of Fame wide receiver Michael Irvin. The former Dallas Cowboys great tells us about the changes in his life in recent years. We also take your phone calls and talk about the person in sports who has inspired or encouraged you and why.
