Alice Mathews

Along with Dr. Haddon Robinson and RBC Ministries president Mart De Haan, Alice Mathews contributes as a teacher on the daily radio program Discover the Word.

In addition, Mathews is the Lois W. Bennett Distinguished Professor Emerita of Educational and Women’s Ministries at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. Previously, she served as the co-director of the seminary’s Doctor of Ministry program. She presently serves as Academic Dean at Gordon-Conwell.

Alice and her husband have been involved in ministry in Europe and the U.S. After a decade of ministry in the United States, the couple spent 10 years in Paris, France, in a church-planting ministry, then 7 years in Vienna, Austria, ministering to the international community.

In 1970, two friends challenged Alice to become involved in women’s ministries. Since then, she has developed a passion to minister to women through evangelism, Bible-study curriculum, and speaking about women’s concerns from a biblical perspective.

Alice earned a master’s degree in clinical psychology at Michigan State University, a diploma in French studies at the Sorbonne (University of Paris), and a doctor of philosophy degree in theological and religious studies from the University of Denver and the Iliff School of Theology.

A sought-after conference speaker, Alice is also the author of several books published by Discovery House: A Woman God Can Use, A Woman Jesus Can Teach, and A Woman God Can Lead. In addition, she authored a homiletics text, Preaching That Speaks to Women, and co-authored a biblical theology of marriage, Marriage Made in Eden—both published by Baker Book House. She and her husband are the parents of four adult children.
