While it’s easy to see pride in others, we often fail to see pride in ourselves.
IDEA: To enable listeners to see the symptoms of being “puffed up.”
PURPOSE: conversation advancing the text
Are some sins easier to spot in yourself than in others?
When you read a phrase like “love is not puffed up” (1 Corinthians 13:4), do you find it easy to spot in yourself?
What might you look for that could be a symptom of this in your life?
I. It will show up in the way you regard the opinions of other people.
A teacher with a student?
In a family?
II. It can show itself in the way we relate to other people.
It can be a tendency to be controlling and demanding.
It can be a reluctance to stoop to do menial chores.
It can be an impatience with other people’s shortcomings.
It can be an unwillingness to apologize or admit you’re wrong.
III. You can sometimes spot it in your feelings.
You spot it when you find that your feelings are hurt rather easily.
You spot it when you’re brooding and sulking when things don’t go your way.
