Consider Your Ways!
Thus says the Lord of hosts: "Consider your ways!" --Haggai 1:7

How long has it been since you read Haggai? If you're like me, it's been a while. Why not take a few minutes and read all 38 verses of this book. Look for the word consider. It occurs four times (1:5,7; 2:15,18).

God spoke through Haggai to the Israelites who had returned from exile. He said, in effect, "Think about it. You don't have enough to eat. Your clothes don't keep you warm. You're not prospering. I have commanded you to rebuild My house. When you obey, My blessing will return."

That message applies to us as well. When everything seems to be going wrong, the first step in solving our problems may be to consider our ways. Let me illustrate.

During one semester in college, my grades dropped dramatically, I got in trouble in the dorm, and I was called into the Dean's office. I went back to my room and thought seriously about my situation. The problem was not schoolwork or the guys in the dorm. I was the problem. When I changed my attitude and my behavior, things began to go better.

Not all our troubles are of our own making. But when difficulties arise, it's wise to consider our ways. Like the people of Haggai's day, we may find that our disobedience is blocking God's blessing.  — David C. Egner

So many problems come our way
Because down deep inside
Rebellion, envy, selfishness
Are what we try to hide. —DJD
The way of obedience is the only way of blessing.
