God Reigns
God reigns over the nations; God sits on His holy throne. —Psalm 47:8

During the days of the Cold War, this startling headline appeared in The Grand Rapids Press: "Computer Error Could Start War."

The article that followed was equally alarming. It reported: "For the second time in 7 months, a computer at the nation's missile warning center erroneously put US strategic forces on alert against a Soviet missile attack on the United States."

The idea of nuclear war is horrifying enough, but to think that it could be caused by a computer mistake is even more appalling. We who believe in the God of the Bible, however, know that He has not abdicated His throne, and that everything is under His control. He's aware of what's going on, and nothing can happen to violate His sovereignty. The long-range good that God has in mind for all who love Him cannot be thwarted.

This is not to say that there will be no more wars. But we can be sure that God rules over the nations and He orders the affairs of this world. Everything is under His control.

Headlines about potential disasters need not cause us to panic. In God's plan there are no mistakes. The Lord God reigns!  — Richard De Haan

When through life's darkened maze I go
And anxious thoughts distress my soul,
Grant me, O Lord, the grace to know
That You are surely in control. —DJD
If you know that God's hand is in everything, you can leave everything in God's hands.
