Compassion Fatigue
Let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. --Galatians 6:9

Look at today's newspaper. Watch the evening news. Chances are you'll see some of the millions of refugees in our world who have fled persecution or violence. The global problems seem so great and the solutions so inadequate that those who are helping on the front lines and those of us who are watching from a distance may suffer from what's called "compassion fatigue."

It's easy to throw in the towel when there seems to be no end to the needs of others and our efforts appear to make little or no difference. "Just a drop in the bucket," we say. "What's the use? I quit."

Compassion fatigue can poison our attitude in any difficult situation--at home, on the job, at church, in school. The Bible's antidote is found in Galatians 6:9-10, "Let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith."

If you are facing a seemingly hopeless situation today, don't give up. God promises that the good seeds you sow and the good deeds you do will yield results in His time. By faith, keep up your good work.  — David C. McCasland

Be not weary in your serving;
Do your best for those in need;
Kindnesses will be rewarded
By the Lord, who prompts the deed. --Anon.
Faithfulness is God's requirement; fruitfulness is His reward.
