Perfect Praise
Out of the mouth of babes . . . You have perfected praise. --Matthew 21:16

During a Sunday evening church service, the children's minister brought two boys and two girls, ages 6 through 8, to the platform. First he asked them what they wanted to be when they grew up. They said athlete, policeman, farmer, and missionary.

Then he asked, "What are your favorite Bible stories?" They mentioned David and Goliath, the birth of Jesus, and the feeding of the 5,000.

Finally the pastor asked, "What is God like? How would you describe Him?" After thinking it over, the children spoke of His power, His love, and His ability to "make miracles."

Their answers were good, but it was how they talked about God that struck me. It was with a sense of awe and trust that they expressed their feelings about God.

Matthew 21 describes the scene in Jerusalem when children were saying, "Hosanna to the Son of David!" (v.15). The temple officials indignantly asked Jesus, "Do you hear what these are saying?" (v.16). That's when Jesus quoted Psalm 8:2 and told them that the children were fulfilling prophecy by their praise.

To me, the boys and girls in the church service were giving the same kind of sincere, innocent praise to the Lord. I too want to give God pure and enthusiastic praise.  — David C. Egner

All hail the power of Jesus' name!
Let angels prostrate fall;
Bring forth the royal diadem,
And crown Him Lord of all. --Perronet
You can never praise God too much.
