Have you ever raced around the supermarket, praying you won't see someone you know because you're too hurried to stop? I have. And yet we should always be available for the opportunities God gives us to witness.

Author Gladys Hunt has written, "When Jesus walked by the Sea of Galilee, He called simple fishermen and said, 'Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men' (Mt. 4:19). They left their nets and followed Him. These men knew the excitement of the catch. And they knew Jesus could involve them in something far bigger than catching fish. Our difficulty is that we have forgotten the excitement of the catch, if indeed we ever knew it."

If we're to experience the joy of "catching" people for Christ, we must go out among them and sincerely befriend them. But as important as witnessing is, don't be a friend just to witness; rather, witness because you are a friend. As someone has said, "People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care!"

Will you be doing any shopping today? Be looking for opportunities to witness. The joy of a catch may be in the next aisle.  — Joanie Yoder
