Our Heart's Desire
One thing I have desired of the Lord, . . . that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life. --Psalm 27:4

I heard about a man in Indiana who lived in the same house all his life. Imagine! For nearly 80 years he awakened every day in that house. He went to school from it, then to work, but always returned to the same home. He said he had no desire to live anywhere else.

Not me. I couldn't live in the same house all my life. I like some change. But not as much as the military wife who told me she had lived in more than 75 different places.

There is one place we should want to dwell all the time, however, and that is in the presence of the Lord. In Psalm 27, David expressed his desire to "dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of [his] life" (v.4).

For the psalmist, the house of the Lord was the tabernacle, where God dwelt among the Israelites in the Holy of Holies. David knew that when he was in God's house, he was safe from his enemies (v.5). The tabernacle also reminded him of God's faithful presence. Today the Holy Spirit of God lives within every believer (Jn. 14:16-17;

1 Cor. 6:19).

Think of it! The God who created us now dwells in us. May our single greatest desire be to enjoy His presence more each day.  — David C. Egner

Living with Jesus, fellowship precious;
Oh, how we love to sit at His feet!
We are God's children, we are His loved ones,
Sensing His presence, fellowship sweet. --Hess
Our greatest privilege is to enjoy God's presence.
