Church & State
Church and government have a lot in common. According to the Bible, both are servants of God, both answer to the authority of God, and both exist for the good of the world for which Christ died. But there are also big differences. Government operates on natural law. The church is entrusted with the gospel and the law of Christ. As RBC Senior Research Editor Herb Vander Lugt points out in the following pages, followers of Christ need to understand what it takes to honor both Caesar and God—without confusing the common good and the distinct roles of both church and state.
